Hi,
Attached is a new game i have been working on, it is inspired by the
educational type puzzle games appearing on the DS which i think are a
great idea.

It currently features the following types of question:

Maths - Basic add, subtract and multiply

Memory - Memorise a sequence of letters

Anagram - Unscramble the word

Word Jumble - Find the hidden word (i find these very difficult....)

There are three difficulty levels and the choice of 5,10 or 20 questions.

It's still a work in progress so there may be minor problems but it is kinda
fun!

Note that at the moment it exits after the resuts are given, this is due to this
being more of a test version.

Any suggestions or comments let me know!

Enjoy!

21/8/7 Updated download:
Note: Make sure you copy both words.txt and the .app to the cybiko.

Changes from 0.2
* Arrow keys + Enter can also be used to navigate menus
* Load word function now only adds words <9 characters, less chance of accidental crashes (i hope..)
* Key presses are now cleared so now no more cheating on the sequence questions!
* Delete key now works the same as the Backspace key
* Variable hint for wordjumble (length + direction on easy, length on medium and none for hard)
* Wordjumble now has a timer gauge
* File selector to pick the word file to use. Lists all .txt files on mp3/a/flash.

It looks good, but is it possible to get the words in a other file, so it will be possible to get new words and in other languages, becouse I speak Dutch (exept here) and it is too hard for me becouse there are words in the game that I never heard of.

In the jumble, I saw that there are sometimes to English words, mayebe it is good to tell how many letters thare are.

And when I had to type in the word in the jumlble, my Cybiko suddenly freesed.

But it is now already a great game and I hope you will finish it so it will become even better!

Keep up the good work,
Giorgio

EDIT: Is it possible to remove the notice that it is made for the Cybiko classic?
And it would be also nice if you make the menus different, that you don't need to press numbers, but use the arrows and enter keys.

I was thinking about the having the words in a seperate file so people could add to them, i did not even think about non-english speakers, sorry. I will add that in the next release!

Good point too about the jumble length, i will make the prompt give a length
before getting the grid. The only way i can do the jumbles is by reading the console output where the answers are sent!

I may make the menus accessable by number and arrow keys, i think thats the best solution. My arrow keys are very sticky...

Thanks for the great feedback and i will try and get these things sorted!

I've finally replaced the download with a newer version. The main change is that it now loads the words used for the anagram and jumble from 'words.txt' on the cybiko.

If anyone makes other language word list can they please put them here for others to use, thanks! If a few alternate word lists become available i will add some sort of selector to chose which to use.

This is only a minor update but i do hope to keep improving this! I keep seeing a 'count the cube' advert for the DS and plan to include that in a future release!

Nice update, I will soon post a dutch words.txt file.

Whith the word jumble, at the screen it is mayebe better to add some more info like an time counter how much time you have would also be nice and you can tell how the word can be displayed in the jumble (diagonal, reversed, vertical and horizontal) I don't know how it can be displayed, and maybe I am looking for nothing for an reversed word.

Whith the memory game, you can easily cheat, when you see a letter you can immediately type it in and it will come in the type field that comes after it, so you don't need to remember it.

It would be handy if you can use the del button.

Oh and if you use too long words in words.txt, your Cybiko will crash.

Hi,
The next release (0.3) fixes all of those problems. I'm holding off releasing for a week though in case i think of anything else to add. The change list is basically:

* Arrow keys for menus
* Timer gauge on word jumble
* Delete key works the same as backspace
* Keyboard buffer is cleared to prevent cheating smile.gif
* Word loader should reject words >8 letters
* Jumble gives a hint dependant on difficulty

At the moment there are no reversed words in the jumble, i might add them. The problem with puzzle games is that they can sometimes get to the point where they are not fun but just plain difficult.

If anyone has any other suggestions feel free to post them.

I'm looking forward to this new version, but mayebe you can add a select menu for the words file, that it searches all the .txt files that begin whith brain_ or something so it will find brain_en and brain_nl and puts it in a list, so you can use more words files.

Updated download, although i planned to make it search for 'brain_' text files i changed my mind and it just lists all text files. I thought that i did not want to force people to be specific in order to use word files. This, of course, may change...

Great update,

When you don't have a words file, your Cybiko will crash, and when your words file is empty the game will still continue.
And is it possible to for you to make a Classic and a Xtreme version?
So you won't get a message on the Xtreme that it is made for the classic?
And on the xtreme, you have to press FN first to type a number, is it possible to activate the fn on the menu and at the math game?
And it would be fun to make it possible to select the types you want to play, whith checkboxes or something, so you can also only play jumble games.

I didn't know that the xtreme needs the function key for numbers, i will take a look.

I thought about a game selector, maybe a choice of random game or custom?

The message on the xtreme is easy to remove but a lower priority, i think it's just a slight change in the root.inf.

I think a small default set of words may in the next version to prevent crashes, i knew about this one but chose to ignore it.....

I think you must make a extra menu like you do whith the number of questions, but then wat kind of games you want, that you can select, that normally every game is selected, but if you don't want the math questions you can deselect it.

Yes, you only have to change the minumum OS to 1.5 or 1.5.0.1

You can do that, or just add a check if there is a .txt file and a check if it's not empty.
I think the last thing is the best to do, becouse if it does not give a warning, you don't know that there is anything wrong.
