I bought 2 Xtremes, and 4 Classics. Because I could.

You seem to have bad luck with those.

Well with six of them, one of them is bound to work. lol
Are they used? Personally I would think buying a used cybiko is a better idea since the batteries won't be as bad. With a new cybiko it's been sitting in a box for like five years and the batteries are pretty much guaranteed not to work.

The xtremes are used. The classics are still in-box.

Got the 1 of the Xtremes in the mail today. They were supposed to come in the mail at the same time, but whatever. Works great so far!

My PC won't detect the Cybiko. I tried installing the USB drivers, and using the ports in the back. I really do have bad luck with these.
And yes, I am using EZ-Loader.

Which version of EZloader? Is it the one on the Cybiko cd or the newer one?

I just joined this august group. But, I'm not a techie. My daughter dusted off a old Cybiko (Classic?) that she got in 2002 as a prize while in high school. The batteries are dead. But, the question of the day is of what use are these devices when the range is only about 500 feet and there is nobody in the neighborhood to communicate with? Is there a secret handshake that comes with this? Is there some hidden joys to be found with this device?

Anybody?

Well it is of no good for communication, I'll tell you that.
Everything else about it is cool, if you're okay with it not being the most up-to-date technology.

Tried using 3 different computers with the Cybiko, and 4 diffrent USB cables. Still won't work. I don't know what the problem is.

Hrm, are all computer XP or lower? I know I had trouble getting mine to work for a while as well. Try using a machine with an old XP (not the latest service pack).

I'm not certain, but it might work if you install XP in a virtual machine in Virtualbox. I know it has USB capabilities, so maybe it can work. I''ll give it a try on my Vista machine. Update: Nevermind. USB sharing support in VirtualBox blows.

If you don't want to arse with it, you can transfer files to a classic and then send them wirelessly to the xtreme. It's far from fast, but it works.

I have the most up-to-date version of XP and my Cybiko Xtreme works on it. I used to have some problems but I'm not really sure what fixed them. I think if you have the Cybiko Xtreme cd running through the installation process might help, it might have some drivers or something. If you don't have the cd I think the iso is in the downloads section of this site and you can burn that to a cd and make one.

Tried using 98SE, and XP SP2.

Looking at the Quick Start guide, 98 doesn't work.

I'm using Windows 7, if that helps at all.

Probably won't help if the PC can't detect the Cybiko even in the Device Manager, but you could try using the USB Console. I've had success connecting to the Cybiko with that even when EZ Loader wouldn't work.

I hate to say this, but...

If your Xtreme can charge off of USB and nothing else, then it sounds like pins 2 and/or 3 on the Cybiko connector could be damaged. My Xtreme is always detected in the PC, even by name. As you can see from the pinout, USB consists of two lines, power and data.

To test this, you'd have to cut open a mini-usb cable, connect it to the Cybiko, and check for continuity between the wires in the USB cable and points on the xtreme board with a multimeter. Those points are likely extremely tiny too. Best case scenario you'd just have to clean up the solder joints on the connector. Worst case scenario, the chip responsible for handling USB comms could be malfunctioning, which means you're boned.

Sorry, dude. For some reason you're having as much luck with Cybikos as people do with Atari 5200 controllers :S
