Hey sup everyone! wink.gif

Sup guys i just got my hands on a second CX unit and the batt is mad dead dry.gif . Tried the Jumpstart method and looked up online, Ok people are saying the batterys you can buy 3 /6 dont work anyway and there $12.99 for 1 . honestly the unit isnt worth 12.99 to me. If anyone can give me a place that is 100% that the batt will work ill buy one. So if anyone can let me know please message me.

huh.gif Now the second thing im interested in knowing is has anyone tried to make there own battery? huh.gif Ive read to use a NiMh or a Ni-Cad battery. So looking through my stach -o- Old parts i came across some old phone batterys. The first was a 3.4 Volt 600mAh Ni-Cad and the second a 6.3 volt 700mAh Ni-Cad. I tried the 3.4 volt first since it was the closest to the 2.4 volt that the cybiko wants. the batt didnt seem to hold a charge being old. so i said heck with it and hooked the 6.3v to it and it still worked fine, but after a wile of charging seemed not to hold a charge. So i did the math, the phone batt is made of 3 cells, so 6.3 makes them 3 -- 1.2 volt cells making 2 of them giving me the 2.4 voltage on the dot, but a mAh of only 233.3 each giving me 466.6 volts with 2 cells. SO .. i ripped the battery pack in to 2 cells, and soldered it in. So far its been charging for over 2 hours and i keep checking it alot for Heat and its nice n cool, eveything seems fine, when i unplug the CX unit from the comp i get the message to recharge it. so it seems its holding a charge. Has anyone eles ever tried this ?? the phone battery is thicker than the Standared battery, but i dont want this one to carry around and it can hang out the bottom or what ever, this one is ment to be a Receiver for Mia Chat. if anyone wants to add or leave your ideas or a place to get a GOOD 100% working batt please let me know. Ive checked Ebay and many other places. Ill keep everyone updated to let you know if this Worked or Exploded into a massive fireball of death! Or if it just didnt charge ... LOL biggrin.gif

Update .... 1: tongue.gif
YES so far the BATTERY IS CHARGING. Unpluging the unit b4 gave me the Blank screen saying Please recharge the unit blah blah blah with USB or power plug. This time the screen stayed on and it flashed the warning at the bottom to charge the unit but the desktop stayed up and usable !! ohmy.gif yey? ohmy.gif

well i can give you an update already !

laugh.gif YES the batt is charged to allmost full and works with out being pluged in the computer ! biggrin.gif YEY! cool.gif

to bad they dont do anything! i tryed Mia Chat and CYwig, both do nothing. I guess you need one of the old brick models to use Mia Chat???? dry.gif Lame if thats true, and the cywig only says, INTERNET CONNECTION LOST and thats it, ive read on this sight and 5000 other sights how to set it up and nothing changed anything. i only got them to have a full keyboard around the house on Aim and i guess its about worthless to try with 2 Xtreams??? these things are really cool but not much in it for me, Im buying a Pocket pc with 802.11b, sd memory slot and 400 mhz cpu so i wont have to mess with this anymore. Yey laugh.gif Sux after all this work to just find out i cant do it =( O well If anyone is interested i may sell them on ebay for a decent price, one fully works and holds a great charge, the other works fully and great actually But its riged up and gos as is or with my batt taken out and the original back in or left out. tongue.gif

Nice. Yeah, all you can do is play some games at this point. I think miachat might not work anymore regardless, since it hasn't been updated.

The cells should be 600mAh each, though, no matter if you use all three or just two. Original battery was rated 600mAh at 3.4v, so those two cells should be ~567mAh at 2.4v smile.gif

The battery indicator is probably calibrated to the discharge voltage of the old cell, so it should be fairly accurate with your replacements.

Sorry to bring up this old topic
Happen to know if such a thing could be done for the Classic? I have a bunch of old(er) phones (and batteries) at home, plus I can get a bunch more. All it should take is some soldering, right? Do they charge using the actual Cybiko, or do I need to charge it outside of the unit using the original phone?

Don't worry too much about necroposting here, we're happy for any activity we get.

I've soldered in AAs, AAAs, and 3.7v DS Lite battery and it runs+charges fine, so I don't think the Cybiko Classic is very picky. Just be weary that the battery indicator shouldn't necessarily be trusted. What I'd do is charge your cells on a supported device to the max, measure their voltage, then completely discharge. Charge in the Cybiko until the voltage from earlier is reached. You could then get an idea of the charge time, and how accurate the battery meter is with your new batteries (if at all).
