Cybiko radio questions

Postby Luigiwoot » Thu Jan 28, 2016 8:39 am

So, I was wondering: what frequency does the Cybiko's radio operate on? Also, does the radio have hard-coded proprietary protocols, or could you get it to behave like a simple wireless serial connection?

I ask because I was wondering if it would be possible to connect a Cybiko to the internet via a USB radio (like ZigBee, XBee, etc.) on the same frequency as the Cybiko. It seems like it would be easy enough to dump data to the Cybiko through a raw serial connection. It would be easy enough to just grab data from a server you set up, transfer it to the Cybiko over the USB radio, and then interpret it on the Cybiko itself.

The Cybiko (Extreme) use the following frequencies:
868-870 MHz (Europe)
902-928 MHz (USA)

it is using FSK as the modulation type to achieve a maximum throughput of 19.2 Kbps
